Plumbago is a fast growing shrub, indigenous to South Africa. Trusses of light blue flowers adorn the plants in summer, and attracts many beneficial insects. It is one of the larval food plants for the common Blue Butterfly (Cyclyrius pirithous). This very popular garden shrub makes a very good informal or formal hedge as it responds well to pruning. It will flower profusely after being cut back, as it bears its flowers on new wood.
