Dwarf, compact version of the Japanese Sacred Bamboo. An elegant, evergreen dwarf shrub with upright, bamboo-like growth habit. It is however not a true bamboo. Easily grown in well-drained soils, in full sun to part shade. They show some tolerance for full shade, but foliage shows colour best in a sunny spot. The white flowers appear in spring, and are followed by spectacular displays of red fruit or berries. They can very successfully be used as hedge plants, and are easily pruned to the desired height.
