Medium sized, broadly spreading tree from Eastern Asia. The bark of this tree is exceptionally beautiful, and can be described as handsome, flaking bark of mottled greys with tans and reds. The deep green foliage of this tree also adds to it's appeal. This is a good choice when you want a shade tree for a small landscape.

They are tough and hardy, and are perfect to use next to driveways, in parking lots, or as a centerpiece tree, where they look exceptionally well incorporated with rocks or rocky areas. The Chinese elm is tardily deciduous, almost evergreen in mild climates, and usually retains leaves during winter. They are also very popular with bonsai enthusiasts.
