Aristea ecklonii, commonly called Blue Stars, is a robust, evergreen perennial native to South Africa. It grows in neat clumps of stiff, strappy, dark green leaves that provide a striking architectural base. In spring to early summer, slender stems rise above the foliage carrying clusters of vivid, star-shaped blue flowers, creating a showy and long-lasting display that attracts bees and butterflies.
This versatile plant is ideal for sunny to lightly shaded spots in the garden, thriving in well-drained, moderately fertile soil. It is low-maintenance, drought-tolerant once established, and perfect for mass plantings, borders, rockeries, and container displays. Aristea ecklonii naturally forms attractive clumps over time, adding both texture and colour to mixed plantings and indigenous gardens.
