Foxtail Fern
Asparagus densiflorus var. “Meyersii”, commonly known as Foxtail Fern or Cat’s Tail Fern, is a striking, evergreen perennial native to South Africa. Its dense, arching fronds grow in compact clusters that resemble soft foxtails or cat tails, adding texture and movement to gardens, borders, and container plantings.
During summer, this ornamental fern produces delicate, star-shaped, fragrant white flowers along its arching fronds. These flowers are followed by vivid red berries that are highly attractive to birds, enhancing the garden’s wildlife value. Its lush green foliage remains visually appealing throughout the year and provides a soft, architectural element to landscapes.
Hardy and adaptable, Asparagus densiflorus var. “Meyersii” thrives in full sun to semi-shade and requires moderate watering once established. It is ideal for use in mixed borders, container gardens, rockeries, and as a feature plant, offering both ornamental beauty and ecological benefits.
